Passive Cable Installer

 

The passive cable installer applies specialist knowledge to design and install Wide Area Networks (WAN), Local Area Networks (LAN), and Cable TV. The passive cable installer performs various functions, including the installation of commercial network and low voltage infrastructure wiring, as well as the testing and troubleshooting of wiring problems.

 

The job description of a passive cable installer commonly consists of the following obligations, tasks, duties, and responsibilities which they perform:

  • Undertakes the loading and installation of workstations, laptops, and peripherals

  • Undertakes the installation of data equipment, including data racks, patch panels, cable trays, etc.

  • Utilizes appropriate testing equipment to test installed cables

  • Provides documentation of all information on all cable and equipment

  • Improves upon existing installation and troubleshooting procedures

  • Performs cabling installations, including New Commercial Data, Voice, Fiber Optic and Paging

  • Provides education to customers on the proper use of all installed equipment and address customer concerns

  • Carries out customer instruction on System Operation and Functionality

  • Tests systems and performs signal verification

  • Adheres to safety policies and procedures and reports all accidents, hazards, and equipment problems

  • Takes responsibility for installing new cables in new or existing buildings

  • Performs termination and testing of new cabling

  • Responsible for setting up new telecommunications frames

  • Installs Cat5e,Cat6, Cat6a, and fiber optic cabling systems

  • Builds and installs racks, dresses and terminates closets, carries out tests and troubleshoots

  • Labels, pulls, and terminates cable

  • Performs maintenance on cable systems by installing, repairing, programming, and upgrading cable infrastructure

  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs by troubleshooting cabling system issues

  • Applies established procedures in testing every newly installed or relocated cable

  • Keeps cable neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety standard

  • Documents time and materials expended on work assignment daily

  • Completes required paperwork, such as: installation checklist, timesheets, service orders, vehicle inspection report and various other logs

  • Promotes environmental, health, and safety policies within the workplace

  • Performs installation and routine maintenance of structured cabling systems

  • Works at heights, poles, and small confined spaces

  • Works outdoors and in inclement weather conditions

  • Installs devices for alarm, fire, access, and automation systems.

Network Engineer

The Sr. Principal Network Engineer is responsible for the design and development and implementation of voice, video, radio-frequency, and/or data communications networks as part of a Project Execution Team. The candidate will work with project managers and customers to determine technical requirements.

1. Responsible for the network design and determining the level of effort associated with the development of voice, video, radio-frequency, and/or data communications networks, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting, and upgrading operating systems and protocol suites and configuring communication media with concentrators, bridges, and other devices.
2. Plans network layouts and configures systems to user environments.
3. Analyzes network topological and traffic and capacity requirements.
4. Supports the acquisition of hardware and software as well as subcontractor services as needed.
5. May provide technical support and troubleshooting to users.
6. May perform network administration duties.
7. May provide guidance and work leadership to less-experienced network personnel.
8. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
9. Participates in special projects as required.

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
10 - 15 years of directly related experience in network analysis and administration.
Certifications: DOD 8570.1-M IAT-II, ITIL V3 Foundation
Unique/Additional Requirements Desired Skills:
Netcool and Tivoli Monitoring skills
Remedy experience
CCNA
Clearance Secret with Top Secret preferred  

1. Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance.
2. Must be able to achieve ITIL Foundation and Security+ (or equivalent) Certification within six
months of hire.
3. The work is typically performed in an office environment, which requires normal safety
precautions; work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes or
equipment.
